FE Based On Bottom Stability and Upheaval Buckling Design of Subsea Pipelines
Project Information
After successful completion of the FE based on-bottom stability design of the pipelines before trenching/flooding, SK Eng. was awarded the second phase of the project, i.e. Finite Element (FE) based on-bottom stability analysis and upheaval buckling analysis of two 42” pipelines in the shore approach area post trenching. Abaqus FE software package was used for the analysis. The pipeline started from the onshore booster station and passing through the shore approach terminated at the PLEM of the SPM system. Out of Straightness analysis was performed to examine the sufficiency of soil backfill cover on top of the pipeline and to calculate the rock cover required for mitigating upheaval buckling tendency, if any.
